Advocating safe drug delivery

An independent, non-sponsored, educational site established to improve the safety of patients in our care

Harm from medication incidents has been shown to represent the largest cause of preventable harm to patients. This has been recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO) and their 3rd Global Patient Safety Challenge “Medication Without Harm”

A very significant way to improve patient safety during the administration of injectable medicines is for them all, not just emergency drugs, to be provided in Prefilled Syringes (PFS).

This COMPLETELY removes many of the error steps and human factors mistakes that can and have caused serious patient harm.

Prefilled syringes are a robust systemic barrier to incorrectly prepared and labelled injectable medications.

Because of the recognised knowledge gap and lack of awareness amongst health care staff of the great benefits of using prefilled syringes, particularly in the acute sector, this website hopes to provide a one stop shop collection of information, supporting evidence, articles and links relevant to PFS.
